How the major stock indexes fared Monday

Raw materials prices recovered some of the losses of last week, on Monday, helped out the business of energy and materials stocks. The largest stock market also rose despite new concerns about the Greece debt problems.

The Dow Jones index gained 45.94 points, or 0.4%, to close at 12,684.68.

The standard & poor 500 index increased 6.09, 0.5%, to 1,346.29.

The Nasdaq composite increased 15,69, or 0.6%, to 2,843.25.

For the year to date:

The Dow Jones index is 1,107.17, or 9.6%.

The S & P is 89.35, or 7 percent.

The Nasdaq is 190.38, or 7.2%.
