How the major stock indexes fared Tuesday (AP)

Corporate deals and strong earnings are credited to send stocks higher this year, and Tuesday was a little of each. $ 8.5 Billion, the largest new Microsoft cash deal for Skype, raised hopes that companies are more likely to use their cash stocks.

The Dow Jones index gained 75.68 points, or 0.6%, to close at 12,760.36.

The standard & poor 500 index increased 10.87, or 0.8%, to 1,357.16.

The Nasdaq composite increased 28.64, or 1%, to 2,871.89.

For the week:

The Dow Jones index is 121.62, or 1%.

The S & P is in c, or 1.3%.

The Nasdaq is 44,33 or 1.6%.

For the year to date:

The Dow Jones index is 1,182.85, or 10.2%.

The S & P is 99.52, or 7.9%.

The Nasdaq is at 219.02, or 8.3%.
