Summary box: Stocks end lower after weak revenues (AP)

GAINS break: Earnings rally that lifted the stock market for these past two weeks pause after a batch of results lower than expected. Pfizer, Clorox, and Molson Coors Brewing Co. fell after reporting earnings lower than analysts had predicted.

Telephone SURPRISE: MetroPCS Communications Inc. increased 10%, most of any company in the & S P 500, after she added a record number of subscribers in the first quarter. The company sells low-cost telephony, mainly in the cities.

Indexes: the Dow Jones index has gained less than a point to close at 12,807.51. The S & P 500 index has fallen by 4.60 points to 1,356.62. The Nasdaq composite dropped points 22.46 at 2,841.62.
